Writing!

I think I just want to write again.

That’s it.

That’s the grand strategy.

No content calendar. No SEO strategy. No carefully researched niche where I can establish myself as a trusted authority on seven ways to maximize your morning routine.

Jesus Christ.

I just want to write.

I used to do it all the time. Somewhere along the way, though, I started treating every interest I had like it needed a business plan.

If I liked writing, maybe I should become a copywriter.

If I liked marketing, maybe I should start a marketing company.

If I liked making things, maybe I should sell them.

If I had an idea, the next question was always some version of:

Okay, but what are we doing with this?

Maybe nothing.

What a fucking concept.

Maybe I can write something because I thought it was funny.

Maybe I can tell a story from my Junior year of high school back in 2009 that approximately three people on Earth will care about.

Maybe I can write 1,500 words about professional wrestling because I have OPINIONS and the internet has obviously been dangerously deprived of opinions about professional wrestling.

Maybe next week I’ll write about space.

Or my dog Earl.

Or getting older.

Or some random memory that crawls out of the dusty filing cabinet in my brain at 11:47 on a Tuesday night.

I don’t know.

And I think that’s exactly why I’m excited about it.

I’ve spent a lot of my adult life trying to optimize myself.

Be more productive.

Make more money.

Get in better shape.

Build something.

Advance my career.

Fix the house.

Plan the future.

Improve. Improve. Improve.

There is always another version of me standing six months in the future who apparently has his shit together, and current me is expected to spend all of his available free time constructing him.

That dude sounds exhausting.

I want something that belongs to current me.

Something that doesn’t need to become anything.

I miss creating things for the simple reason that creating them was fun.

That’s what I want this place to be.

Not a brand.

Not a funnel.

Not the beginning of my inevitable $47 online course.

Just a corner of the internet where I can sit down, crack my knuckles, and say:

Alright. What weird shit are we thinking about today?

Maybe some of it will be funny.

Maybe some of it will be serious.

Maybe I’ll dig through old stories and try to figure out why I still remember something incredibly stupid that happened fifteen years ago.

Maybe I’ll write something profound.

Statistically, probably not.

But I’ll write.

And right now, that feels like enough.
