Two Weeks of Suwannee River Camping

Very recently, my girlfriend Rachael and I decided that we were taking a break from the rat race altogether, and leaving our overpriced rental home in Nashville, TN behind us to chase a dream of seeing the beauty of the country we live in.

Arguably this will likely take this website in a completely different direction, so I’ve been contemplating a name change. That is TBD though!

We decided to kick off our adventure in our Viking 1906 2008 popup camper at the Suwanee River Rendezvous in Mayo, FL

It’s been a huge adjustment to say the least, but we’re enjoying ourselves so far.

We’ve had some issues with our camper involving the door not quite working right, and there being a bit too much sway in the roof for comfort.

Being that I’m a newbie camper repair guy, I’ve not been able to pinpoint exactly the cause of it, but I’ve narrowed it down to either being an issue with the goshen lift system, or the frame being bent/damaged.

I’ve been able to rig it up to work for now though, and we plan to upgrade to a larger trailer in the near future.

The large tent you see in the photo houses our kitchen/storage area.

Everything is a bit messy right now as we get acclimated, but as soon as we get it looking “pretty” I’ll show off a few photos and likely walk you through it in the vlog.

Aside from camper issues, I can say that we’ve been loving our time here so far.

One of the first things we noticed as that in the absence of city lights, the skies here are truly immaculate. It feels as though you can see EVERY star in the sky, which is a treat after living in Nashville for a few years.

There is a very nice dog park here, with 5 separate fenced off areas (including an agility course) so Earl and Jarvis have been enjoying the transition as well. I’m in between jobs so I’ve been able to spend lots of time with them. One day I threw the ball for Earl for so long that I actually exhausted MYSELF! The little guy has no quit in him.

The weather in this part of Florida is truly weird as well. We feel like we’ve experienced winter, spring and summer all within the two weeks we’ve been here which is truly bizarre. One night we ran out of propane for our heater around 2 AM, which made for an uncomfortable night. A lesson learned!

Rachael is currently learning a new job which she is able to work remotely. We’re here for 6 months and then after that, we’ll decide on what to do next.
