The Nashville Part-Timer (FIRST POST!)

Writing is a medium I find myself coming back to often, whether it be writing songs, poems, short-stories, etc.

Nothing sets my soul on fire like watching my words fill up a blank page.

The process of creating new people, places, animals, stories and more in your mind and transferring them to a blank sheet is basically masochism, yet satisfying. Isolated yet intimate. Each new character is given life, thoughts, needs, wants, goals and desires by your pen strokes. If you ask me… that’s pretty freaking cool.

Writing is life’s ultimate freedom.

In his book titled “Crush It”, Gary Vaynerchuk preaches that we should seek the medium that most “speaks to our DNA”. Essentially using the method that makes us feel the most alive when posting content. It’s a pretty good read and will definitely leave you feeling pumped up, so I definitely recommend it. ESPECIALLY if you have a passion that you aspire to turn into a career.

That’s why I am here.

Right now, I work as a salesman at a printing and promotional product company (call me if you need something by the way!). I’d heard a few full-time musicians use the term “part-timers” to refer to people like me. The ones with day-jobs, that essentially played music as a side-hustle, or simply did it more as a hobby. Most folks like me would love to be in the songwriting/music game full-time but it simply isn’t realistic.

That’s how I got the idea for this blog.

What do YOU picture when you imagine a Nashville part-timer? A person waiting tables, waiting for their big break?

It might be… it also might be the guy fixing your car, building your deck, working in your IT department… etc.

In this case, it’s the guy selling you your promotional items and printing.

Stay tuned and you’ll get a sense for what it’s like living in Nashville as a part-timer.
