Late to the Party Part II: Finishing the Forest Temple

Horned spectral knight riding a glowing ghost horse through a portal

I finally was able to put an end to my time at the Forest Temple.

That is after getting my butt kicked by Phantom Ganon an absolutely aggravating number of times.

Seriously f*** this guy.

I died about a hundred times simply figuring out how to dodge the lightning thrown by the real Ganon as the fake one trolled me numerous times. I’m really still not sure what the difference was to be honest or if there was one.

What painting was he coming out of?

Was there a pattern?

Was there a distinctive characteristic that helped you identify the real deal?

No idea.

I just started getting lucky after a bit.

Then there was the tennis match from hell…

I tried volleying the energy ball with Demon Ghost Face Dumb Guy Ganon for a while and after getting service aced in the face several dozen times, realized that this simply was not the right strategy.

I found that leaving less space between Link and Ganon, as well as slicing earlier would give our villain less time to react thus returning the serve more into his big dumb, evil face much more often.

Eventually, I saw Phantom Ganon fall one final time, leaving Link heavily breathing with one heart left, and a feeling of disbelief that I’d finally gotten it done.

The cutscene afterwards was where it really got disheartening.

You receive a medallion for finally defeating the Forest Temple, but I couldn’t help but notice the game hinting that there would be several other medallions to collect.

I already know I’m in for a treat.

No one needs to tell me.
